The guys at Velo Dirt have mapped out an incredible bike route that travels the spine of Oregon from Klamath Falls to The Dalles. It’s a 360 mile dirt odyssey, as they call it. While anyone can ride the route anytime, and, indeed, they recommend it for self-supported adventurers looking for a unique experience off the beaten path, they are semi-organizing a group ride (registration is closed) over Memorial Day weekend.
I’ve already made a reservation to shuttle a group down the day before the ride begins. If you have the time and inclination to see a little more of Klamath Falls or southern Oregon generally -- maybe a section of the Rapha Continental Lakes Loop -- and want to arrive on May 21 or prior, please drop me a line. As I write this, all dates are open. The cost is $375.
As for returning from The Dalles, or more specifically the Deschutes River State Recreation Area, I am offering return departures to Portland Sunday-Wednesday, at 9:00AM, 1:00PM, and 5:00PM.
“Teams” will get dibs on a first-come, first-serve basis. Team means one person will be reserving the entire van and paying me. The team cost will be $150. I’ll ask for a non-refundable $50 deposit to lock-in your date and time. The remainder can be paid when you get picked up from the Deschutes Rec Area.
If you’re riding alone and don’t want to pay for an otherwise empty shuttle, please send me an email with your preferred date and time. I’ll make a list of “singles” and try to combine them into any slots that haven’t been taken by a team reservation. Cost for singles will probably be in the range of $30-50 depending on interest and how many folks I can combine into a trip.
Oh, if you’re coming here for the first time, the shuttle seats 6 cyclists, 6 bikes, and as much gear as you can carry on a bike. Cheers.
