What a year! In a word: eventful. And in a good way.
Heck, even the weather was eventful. Though some may argue it being “in a good way”, I’ll stand by it. Portlandia had her biggest snow storm in decades. Stormy winter weather for nearly two weeks straight and, at the worst, 12-14 inches of snow accumulation on the ground. As a guy (trying) to live everyday like he’s on summer vacation, I thought it was the best way possible to usher in Christmas and finish out the year. I can’t tell you how beautiful it is to see cross country skiers taking over the streets for days on end. I felt like I was in Finland. I even busted out my favorite wool sweater that I almost never get to wear west of the Cascades.

Other than that, I don’t have much news to add. Sag Wagon is currently on holiday while I am out of town visiting relatives and what-not, but otherwise is open for business and accepting spring and summer bike tour reservations. If you are a Nordic skier who has always dreamed of doing a point-to-point, multi-day expedition give me a call. I expect to be back in town by the end of January and I’d be glad to help with any logistical arrangements.
Until then, I wish everyone all the best for 2009. I’m not much for resolutions, but I will say: this year take some time to stop and smell the roses, indulge your inner Shackleton at least one long weekend, and call a mother/father/sibling whom you haven’t seen in a while just to say hi. You’ll be glad you did... remember, the work will always be with us.
